Music Production class with
DJ Shanon
On 13th April 2020, the senior students of Dubai Scholars had the opportunity to attend a music production session with the talented DJ Shannon. The thought of having something new excited the seniors, as a result we had over thirty students who attended the virtual meeting. DJ Shannon was accompanied her friend, Nilla Green, who gave us a great insight in the field of producing music. We were made aware of different digital audio workstations like FL Studio, Ableton and Apple Garageband; however, we only worked on Ableton. DJ Shannon ran through the different functions available on Ableton and we as listeners, chose which beats were best mixed with one another in Cardi B’s Coronavirus track.
|
This is a response from Gabriella Vaz, from 10-B who attended this wonderful session, “The session was fun and a great learning experience. It helped expand my understanding of making music.”
Overall, the students, teachers and DJ Shannon were beyond happy with the success of this session. The students who are still interested in this session now have the opportunity to attend online courses with DJ Shannon to professionalize their music production skills. You also have the opportunity to do the same!

English Debates
Lined rows of notebooks clutched in excited hands, connected through shiny digital screens over a myriad of interconnected networks. The debates were held in English periods over the course of the entire week. 4 teams of for and against, each armed with postulates of facts and statistics to support their claim and stand their ground.
|
Teams consisted of opening speakers, argumentative speakers, rebuttal speakers and researchers. Students had been given an opportunity to exercise and showcase their research, oratory and debating skills in this teacher-organized event. Guests were invited to oversee and enjoy the fiery debate; teachers, class teachers or the counsellor were invited to witness the proceedings of the debate. The debaters had seamlessly utilized surveys, facts, statistics and anecdotes to support their claims and ensure the verdict leans towards their side.
|
At last, the event ended with impactful notes from the closing speakers and words of constructive feedback from the guests, teachers and audience. Overall, it was an extremely beneficial event that served to quench the students’ thrist for knowledge, while simultaneously engaging their minds to analytically think and criticise points of information.

Sunday Funday
On the 12th of April 2020, the student council successfully led the first online initiative after the dreadful and tragic spread of COVID 19.
Sunday Funday was a day given to students to unwind from the stressful weeks of e-learning, quarantine and teachers who were disquieted about completing their portions. A day off for students and teachers to explore online amusements, catch up on celebrity news and pop culture by playing rounds of online Pictionary ,partaking in celebrity quizzes and listening to the songs that made it to the billboard 100. Head girl, Lamya Butt; Head boy, Aryan Changrani; Deputy Head Girl, Kushi Balla and Deputy Head Boy, Muhammad Toofail: led teams of vice-captains and captains to prepare diverse activities to be contested by the students of Year 9 - 11 alongside the guidance of Sir Raymond and Miss Sapna. |
The day commenced with a spiced up version of the typical virtual assemblies, prepared by the respected classes. This was continued by prepared games by the class teachers, such as ‘Complete the lyrics’, ‘Guess the movie’ and ‘Guess the song’. Followed by the P.E. and P.A. department engaging and educating the kids about the prominence of fitness and rhythm during these challenging times. The students also had Virtual Funday Selfie contests. Where in students won by creatively and effectively using their imagination to create unconventional hats (created out of recycled and reused materials). Students added on by coming up with an inventive title and name for their hat pieces. The winners of each year group are mentioned below in the pdf file attached.

All in all, the Virtual Funday was a great initiative led by the student council members. The Council looks forward to partaking and hosting more of such events in these times. Even in obscure times like this, students of Dubai scholars do not lose hope, spread positivity and will always find a way out to bring light upon their work by creating and successfully working out wonderful events such as this even if it may be online. Stay Home and Stay Safe.
